I've sat on the other side of this process for over 20 years. I've seen smart, hardworking students get rejected - not because they weren't good enough, but because they didn't know what they didn't know. Wrong prerequisites. Too few hours. A personal statement that said nothing. A school list that was all reach schools.
Nobody told them. That's the real problem.
That's why I built PreVet Advisor. So you have someone in your corner who's actually been inside these institutions - not just read about them.
Built around 20 years of real advising experience. Not a generic study app. Not a chatbot someone threw together. Tools that actually reflect how vet school admissions works.
Cooper is available whenever you have a question - 10pm before an exam, Sunday morning before a deadline. He knows prerequisites, hours requirements, school selection, personal statement strategy. Think of him as the advisor who always has office hours when you need them.
Named after Dr. Broc's yellow Lab, Cooper. Every good advisor should be loyal, dependable, and always happy to see you.
Open Cooper →Log your clinical hours, track your GPA, and check off prerequisites as you go. When it's time to apply, you'll know exactly where you stand - no scrambling to remember what you did sophomore year.
Open Tracker →Every AVMA-accredited school, side by side. GPA averages, acceptance rates, in-state preference, hours requirements. Stop guessing which schools actually fit your profile.
Compare Schools →The personal statement is where most applications fall apart. This workspace gives you starter prompts, structure feedback, and a brutally honest read on whether your opening actually lands. Most students need 4 or 5 drafts. Start here.
Open Workspace →Every vet school has a different prerequisite list - and the differences matter more than most students realize. This tool lets you look up the exact course requirements for any school on your list, side by side, so you can plan your coursework with a clear target in mind instead of guessing.
Look Up Prerequisites →Year-by-year checklist used by Dr. Broc to advise pre-vet students at the university level. Free. No strings attached.

I'm Dr. Broc Sandelin - Dean of Agriculture & Environmental Sciences at Delaware Valley University, and a Ph.D. in Animal Science from the University of Arkansas. I've spent 20+ years working and leading at the institutions that train, advise, and admit pre-veterinary students.
I grew up on a farm in southwest Kansas, surrounded by cattle, dogs, and cats. Animals were just part of life - and honestly, I never questioned that they would be part of my career too. I've always believed they're truly one of God's gifts. That belief is what drove me into animal science, and it's what still drives me today. I now share my home with Cooper (my yellow Lab and the namesake of our AI advisor), along with another dog, and a pot-bellied pig who is, without question, the one actually running the household. The dogs know it. I know it. We've all made our peace with it.
Before coming to DelVal (Go Aggies!!) I was Chair of the Department of Animal and Veterinary Science at Cal Poly Pomona, where I advised thousands of students on their pre-vet journey during my 13 year tenure there. I saw firsthand what separates accepted applicants from rejected ones - intelligence gets you to the starting line, but strategy, timing, and the right guidance are what get you across it.
I built PreVet Advisor because most students are navigating one of the most competitive graduate school pipelines in the country without expert support. That changes here.
The PreVet Advisor school comparison tool covers all AVMA-accredited programs in the U.S. and internationally - so you can find your best fit with confidence.
School list based on AVMA Council on Education accreditation. Data updated annually.
Anyone who is seriously working toward vet school. Freshmen who are just figuring out their prerequisites. Juniors who are panicking about VMCAS. Seniors who didn't get in and are trying to figure out what went wrong. If you're committed, this is for you.
No. Cooper is trained on my actual advising knowledge - the same things I tell students in my office. He's a starting point, not the whole thing. You also get live group calls with me directly, where you can ask anything.
Honestly? Yesterday. The students I've seen struggle most are the ones who show up junior year thinking they still have time to figure it out. You don't have as much runway as you think. But whatever stage you're at, start now.
VMCAS is the application portal most vet schools use. It opens in May and runs on a rolling admissions basis - meaning the later you apply, the fewer spots are left. Missing the early window doesn't just hurt your chances, it costs you a full year. I've watched that happen more times than I'd like to admit.
Yes. Monthly memberships can be cancelled anytime with no questions asked. Annual memberships are non-refundable. No long-term commitments on the monthly plan.
Your campus advisor is doing their best with a caseload of several hundred students. They're not going to remember your GPA trend, your clinical hours breakdown, or which schools prefer in-state applicants. I will. That's the difference.
Most competitive applicants have an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher, with a science GPA to match. That said, GPA alone doesn't get you in. I've seen 3.9 students rejected and 3.4 students accepted. It's about the full picture. But if your science GPA is below 3.2, that's something we need to address before you apply.
Most schools want to see at least 300–500 hours of veterinary experience, but competitive applicants typically have more, and the quality matters as much as the number. Hours with a veterinarian in a clinical setting carry more weight than general animal care. You also want diversity: large animal, small animal, and ideally some research or shelter experience.
Harder than most students realize. The average acceptance rate across AVMA-accredited schools is under 12%, which is more competitive than most medical schools. Over 10,000 students apply each year for a limited number of seats. The students who get in aren't necessarily the smartest ones. They're the ones who planned early, built the right profile, and applied strategically.
Every school is different, but the core requirements typically include general biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, physics, genetics, and math. The specific course requirements vary significantly from school to school, which is why planning your coursework around the schools you're actually targeting matters more than following a generic list. Use the Prerequisite Lookup Tool to see exact requirements for any AVMA-accredited school.
